This is a collaborative collection by Lorena Pipenco and Sunny Ning. We have intertwined our passions of handcraft and knitwear to redefine our aesthetics into one. looking at the value changes between our generations, cultures, and social positions, specifically looking at our own families from China and Romania. Lorena's family has a background of being seamstresses in Romania so then she transformed a traditional technique of Macrame that her mother would learn in Romanian school when she was young, into something that represents her now but still respects her heritage. Sunny was inspired by what her Chinese parents would wear and how she connected to their garments. She deconstructed the yarn of the garment to its core and created new silhouettes with the yarn that is now free. This collection also has no waste fabric as everything is made by hand, we Knit the pieces and with the excess yarn, we create Macrame so sustainability was also one of our main focuses during this collaboration. Together we have worked to unpack our cultures, learn about each other but also educate each one another and bring our worlds together.
