The fantastical, bizarre, folkloric, arcane, magical sides of the underwater life have led the development of the pieces to reflect those things. Sort of a sublime utopia in the world. With this, it is a strong combination of the Philippine’s marine life while also stepping into the idea of a cohesive collection and trying to create looks that are eclectic, varied and ultimately wearable. There’s a side that warns about alarming social issues, and a part that creates enthusiasm and modernity. Subtly capturing these endangered and invasive species and other objects that can be found underwater while also referencing the Philippine’s history and traditional clothing articles, the Japanese and other Asian elements also becoming a key ingredient. Reimagining and deconstructing them digitally, trying to mirror the characteristics of the subject underwater and having them printed on fabrics resulted in refractions and distortions of what one may see diving in the islands of the Philippines. The elemental spark that evokes the ocean is somehow instinctive and unpredictable. a Kind like how the Philippines is.
