Eponymous label - Henrietta O’Connor - is driven by a fascination with fashion as a form of storytelling. Presenting a vision that is strangely familiar yet unfamiliar, creating narratives that cannot be captured in words alone. With a deeply personal approach, synergies of contrasting ideas are crafted, reflecting Creative Director, Henrietta O’Connor’s own multifaceted identity and culture, while being influenced by the history and traditions of art.
'Art body', a capsule collection of six looks, was presented at London College of Fashion’s annual press show in 2016. The collection seeks to renegotiate representations of the female body in art and celebrates the work of female artists such as Mickalene Thomas and Nicola L. Less concerned with typical conventions of clothing and wearability, the pieces in the collection were intended to be like soft sculptures for the body which translated itself into surreal shapes and oversized proportions. Almost as if the body was to deflate.
Making use of tactile fabrics such as latex, pvc, suede and faux fur, in collaboration with Yumi Kim, a fashion textiles print designer, Henrietta O’Connor’s debut collection was born. "The woman who wears Henrietta O’Connor is a work of art for herself and the heroine in her story".
