Vice Style Visionaries
Vice Style’s ‘Visionaries,’ is a series of short films featuring some of fashion’s most influential icons, including Gareth Pugh, Nick Knight and Diane Pernet.
Each was asked to choose a new fashion luminary considered by the established fashion visionary as a pioneer with the potential to change the face of fashion. Diane Pernet nominated Stefan Siegel, founder of NOT JUST A LABEL as her future visionary. Diane discusses the importance of taking advantage of new technology to revolutionize the industry. “What Stefan Siegel is doing is taking it away from the business man who is running the design, to putting it in the hands of creativity because really, that’s what fashion is all about.”
ViceStyle.com has teamed up with BlackBerry to produce ‘Visionaries’ a 3 part series of short films highlighting the influence and importance of fashion on modern culture.
Visionaries offers an understanding of how people in a seemingly ephemeral industry came to have unprecedented power to transform the face of fashion whilst leaving a remarkable impact on culture. The groundbreaking fashion players featured in the films reveal to what extent fashion, art, music and film inform and complement each other: elements which are the essential ingredients in the creative process, and fashion in turn inspires art, film and music.
Following the release of the first film starring Gareth Pugh, the second film stars cult fashion curator, journalist and blogger, Diane Pernet. A permanent feature on the front row of the world’s most prestigious fashion shows, Diane has led the way for fashion film, creating the ‘A Shaded View on Fashion Film Festival’, a platform that promotes fashion film whilst providing exposure for up-and-coming fashion film makers, she says “I like to find people and I like to expose ‘em because I know it really helps”.
The festival is now its fourth year and will be hosted this year on October 7th, 8th & 9th at Centre Pompidou in Paris.
Each of the Visionaries films focus on a new fashion luminary considered by the established fashion visionary as a pioneer with the potential to change the face of fashion. Through a close-up of these individuals we ultimately observe the importance of how far the fashion industry has come and where it is headed to next.
In this personal interview Diane discusses her collaborations with top fashion filmmakers and directors such as Mike Figgis who she hails as “one of my favourite directors” and “a revolutionary”
Diane nominates her future visionary as Stefan Siegel, founder of fashion website, NOT JUST A LABEL. Speaking about Siegel, Diane says “the landscape of fashion needs to change I think, because for the past 10 years it’s been entirely in the hands of the corporations. What Stephen Siegel is doing is taking it away from the business man who is running the design, to putting it in the hands of creativity because really, that's what fashion is all about.”
Visionaries celebrates the people instrumental in bringing the worlds of fashion and art together, shining a light on the individuals behind the scenes, at the frontier, making fashion happen.
