The College of Arts and Social Sciences provides a wide range of taught courses and research opportunities in art, design, English, sociology, politics, contemporary history, modern languages, music, media, performance, Law and Business. Our courses range from undergraduate to Master's degree level while research opportunities exist for study up to and including PhD. Our schools and research institutes are renowned for a high standard of teaching, world class research, excellent facilities and employable graduates.
The School of Arts & Media is the largest School at the University with over 4000 creative students. We offer a huge variety of courses, from Fashion Image Making and Styling, Television and Radio, Creative Writing and Popular Music to Online Journalism, Animation, Communication Design and Performance.
Head of School
Professor Helen Marshall was appointed Vice-Chancellor from acting Vice-Chancellor in April 2015, having joined the University of Salford in November 2013 as Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Helen studied Law before continuing to postgraduate research in Corporate Merger Law at the University of Birmingham.
Born in Cardiff, Helen has lived in the North West for a significant period of her career. Before moving to South Wales, Helen held senior positions at the University of Central Lancashire and at the University of Cumbria, as well as gaining extensive experience in quality assurance through a secondment to the QAA.

Studying in the historic city of Salford on our beautiful campus is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The main University Campus is 2km from Manchester city centre, only a 5 minute journey away. There are buses every few minutes to the city centre and we’ve got our own train station so it's easy to get around.
We’re also the closest university to Manchester United Football Club and Old Trafford cricket ground so you won’t have far to go to catch a good match.
