Fashion & Fantasy | Part 11


A Monthly Curated Video Selection by Niccolò Montanari. Over the past few years, fashion film has been developing as a genre and breaking away from its traditional definition of fashion in motion. As a result, this creative medium is now being granted greater visibility and recognition across film festivals and events worldwide.

This genre now tends to brings together several creative industries, resulting in creative content with a strong sense of aesthetic able to merge the boundaries between fashion, film, music, theatre and advertising. A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend Aesthetica Short Film Festival, an event that caters to short films across several genres. The selection below is my personal pick, based on films that stood out for their ability to express visually the director’s vision and story of the film.


Lil Buck with Icons of Modern Art by Andy Margetson

London-based director Andrew Margetson collaborates with dancer Lil Buck to explore the "Icons Of Modern Art: The Shchukin Collection" exhibition at the Foundation Louis Vuitton in Paris.


The Flower Of Life by Damien Krisl

In a poetic, dream-like journey through a woman’s subconscious, director Damien Krisl portrays flowers as a way to express a person’s emotions.


Detour by Anna Radchenko

Detour is sensory exploration of a woman’s solitary experience, developed through Anna Radchenko’s unique aesthetic.


Abjective by Marie-Therese Hildenbrandt
