Variously is a sustainable brand based in Detroit, that collaborates with global artisanal partnerships to create socially conscious line of products in home & fashion. Supporting techniques that reflect unique stories of heritage craftsmanship with contemporary designs is the quintessential spirit of the brand. Variously produces in small batches of capsule collections derived ethically made, underlined by diversity & human spirit. Anjali Purohit, the founder of Variously, was born and raised in India. Anjali pursued design education from prestigious schools like NIFT,New Delhi,India and NABA,Milan,Italy.
Having worked with international fashion houses, artisanal clusters, design & advertisement studios, buying houses for 12+ yrs , Anjali has performed roles in design, art direction, product development, production for companies like Next UK,Woolworths UK,Orobianco Italy, Positive Flow Italy,Pottery Barn USA,Free People USA among others. She has also exhibited and worked in art & design hubs like Milan,Frankfurt,Berlin,New Delhi & Mumbai.
While working for bigger production houses, Anjali came across many loop holes in the supply chain of fashion industry eg wastage of raw materials, low wages, using harmful materials & processes, poor working conditions. It was an obvious choice while establishing her own start up label, that it would promote community livelihood by embracing skill share across varied artisanal partnerships. All the products are carefully designed by adopting sustainable materials and processes.
Variously works directly with artisanal families thereby cutting the middle men. Using natural dyes & yarns grown at local farms, working with non profits ,
co-operatives, women weavers & printers, jail inmates and differently abled people who are trained to perform unique heritage techniques, further adds value thereby creating a meaningful supply chain.
Detroit with its rich legacy and vibrant culture of contemporary art & design, truly compliments the ethos of this label. Variously is an extension of Anjali's diverse visual culture experiences as a designer+entrepreneur.
