Kim Philipsen (1990) has just graduated with her collection 'MISERY LOVES COMPANY' at the Utrecht School of the Arts. That's where she discovered her love and passion for prints, materials and fabric operations.

The inspiration for the collection comes from the photo series "VIOLET", about girls taking pictures of themselves. This clearly raises a certain drama, sadness and unease feeling. This is converted into the dilapidated collection of a group of women who share each other's misery. That is how a feminine, chic collection with an edgy edge has emerged.

MISERY LOVES COMPANY

The collection 'MISERY LOVES COMPANY' is about a group of dilapidated woman, whom share each other's misery. I've been inspired by a photo series called 'VIOLETT' In my collection I included the drama, sadness and discomfort experienced in the pictures. This aspect becomes visible in the collection through material processing and shapes. I also added a certain awkardness to the designs which the wearer does not experience as an obstacle, but to the viewer it might seem as hindrance.
