OFFICIALLY UNEMPLOYED by Emily Nolan is an emerging ready-to-wear womenswear label based in Melbourne.
Tired and unimpressed with robotic practices and standardisation of modern dress, Officially Unemployed has been created on its own terms. Nolan, graduating from The Whitehouse Institute of Design with the class of 2016 as Design of the Year. Unemployed explores a strong misfit approach to garment assembly as dress-ups. Exemplified by challenging traditional notions of womenswear and the intimate disguise between work and play. Blending chaotic textures, disparate boxy shapes and unexpected juxtapositions of idosyncratic low end clothing ideals with high end cut, fabrication and finish.
