Monika Dolna Couture

Monika Dolna is the name of the designer behind this edgy collection. Monika came from a working class family in Slovakia. Every woman knew how to cook, bake, garden, embroider, sew and knit. Dressmaking wasn’t just the cheaper option to get new garments. It was also an activity used to bond women in the family. Monika developed other skills like drawing, painting, an exceptional eye for detail and an eye for beauty. Her art skills’ especially drawing, have been developed since the age of 3 and, by the age of 11, she knew exactly what she wanted to be, a fashion designer. No one could have talked her out of it. Her bible was fashion magazines, sewing magazines with patterns and catwalk on TV and the internet. Her big inspirations were couturiers such as Christian Dior, Coco Chanel, Emmanuel Ungaro, Balenciaga, Valentino, and Alexander McQueen. Simple Haute Couture. Then, at the age of 19, after finishing Business, Enterprise and Management in the local High school, she decided to leave Slovakia and try her luck in one of the world’s biggest fashion capitals – London. London opened up a completely new world for her. A world of unlimited opportunities and cultural mixtures which have proved a great source of inspiration for her. Monika recently finished her HND in Fashion and Textile at LCCA London. This collection forms part of her graduation collection and she continues to make garments in her same signature style.
