Hangar by Siddharth Shashankan

Siddharth Shashankan is a Chennai based designer who graduated from Raffles Design Institute, Singapore in 2007 with a degree in Fashion Design (Northumbria University, UK). Siddharth did his schooling from Delhi and has always had an undying passion for design. In the three years at Raffles, Siddharth won the Customer’s Choice Award for the AIDS Awareness Project by The Singapore Health Board, and received wide critical acclaim for the collections he did whilst still at Raffles.

Siddharth launched Hangar Atelier in the October of 2009. As the Creative Director and Founder of Hangar Atelier, Siddharth believes in building a brand that inspires individualism and experimentation in both traditional and non-traditional ways. His designs convey the love of classics and the contemporary defiance of the new age; both of which can be seen in his labels (or works).

Siddharth loves to play with fabrics and textures carefully working on lines, cuts and silhouettes.
He believes, a Hangar Atelier piece is like a love story in itself -- when the whole ensemble comes together, it feels like a rainbow whirlwind of chiffon romance.

In his own words, “I always imagine each creation in black and white, constantly questioning myself, when the lights go out, will this piece still be recognisable as a Hangar Atelier, in the pale moonlight? If the answer is yes, I know, I have done my due. As a designer, that is the most important thing to me -- creating clothes that are unique and have a sense of timelessness about them. Hangar Atelier is a fragment of my soul, it is something I have grown up with and is a very strong part of my identity.”

HANGAR, is a high-end fashion label designed and produced by Hangar Atelier, offering traditional and contemporary ensembles for men and women. An expression in the new form of minimalism, revolving around urban modernity and individuality -- evolved with a motto that comprises of love for timeless classics, suave detailing and original design quality, Hangar explores smart use of textures, exclusive prints and balanced silhouettes.

CLIPSE is Hangar Atelier’s foray into ready-to-wear ensembles for women. Clipse retains all qualities synonymous with Hangar -- continuing its love for glamour, detailing and precision tailoring but incorporates a casual charm to its easy-wear collection. Clipse infuses subtle detailing with an urban and contemporary touch, youthful charm and effortless elegance reflecting a love for colours, patterns, prints and textures.

He did his launch show at Red Dot museum , Singapore in September 2013 . Impressed by his work showcased at Singapore , the oganisers of Mercedes Benz Asia Fashion week invited him to showcase at Mercedes Benz – Stylo Asia Fashion week . It was held at Kuala Lumpur in December 2013 .
He was invited by the Indian Ambassador to Indonesia , Mr. Gurjit Singh to represent India at Indonesia Fashion week 2015 . The show ammased great reviews.
