Freak Boutique London is the brainchild of London-based illustrator Alice Dean. Since 2016 she has been carefully sourcing vintage and second-hand leather to use as the canvas for her distinctive hand-painted garments. Whether they're exploring subversive subjects or simply adorned in riotous patterns, these illustrated pieces are always bold.
The AW18 collection tells the story of a gender-bending martian who has crash-landed in a car park. His planet is one of explosive intergalactic power dressing, where proportions are skin tight or ultra-volumised and prints echo the landscape of this world - think liquorice allsorts being sliced apart by neon bolts and cosmic rays rising out of black holes. In an attempt to blend in, he clad himself in cartoon Tartan after observing Scottish culture but still he remains more sensational than traditional.
