Raised in a small rural town, where clothing is seldom sold; QUT Graduate Emily Giles’ is heavily inspired by traditional handi-crafts whereby these techniques are passed down to younger generations. Her enthusiasm for fashion developed from the rural lifestyle and showing her artistic flare through visual arts at school.
Recently graduating from Queensland University of Technology with a double degree; Bachelor of Fine Arts (Fashion) & Bachelor of Business (Advertising). GILES focuses on quality natural fabrics which are sourced worldwide and heavily relies on textile design as her point of difference. Her latest collection called “RIDEAWAY” includes stylistic pieces experimenting with oversized proportions, dropped shoulders, color blocking and layering. Specifically, this collection focuses all-natural fibers such as wool, silk and fur. Dramatic shades and unusual textures characterize this collection, with textile design also featuring heavily. Many pieces in her collection feature both eloquent and distinct uses of embroidery, knitting, weaving, beading and quilting.Giles is now looking forward to new exciting opportunities as a fashion designer in the design world.
