While working on series of paintings, collages and fashion designs, Christa van der Meer focuses on translating a selection of folkloric traditions and specific visual cultures into her personal vision. It has an autonomous starting point and is later on released into an applied world.

“I have a great curiosity about the concept of something we delightfully – and sometimes questionably – call fashion. Clothing enables you to express your identity and flaunt it. That is why I wonder, in what way is clothing you wear connected to your identity? If clothing is not worn by a person but by an object, can it still be an expression of identity?"

After gaining international experience at Henrik Vibskov (Copenhagen) and A.Berg Studio (Berlin) she graduated from the Royal Academy of Art (The Hague) in 2013. Since then she has been working as an individual designer and artist. In addition to this she is co-founder of collective Das Leben am Haverkamp. Das Leben am Haverkamp is a creative platform that represents four fashion designers – Anouk van Klaveren, Dewi Bekker, Gino Anthonisse and Christa van der Meer. Together they create the novel context necessary for their individual labels and unrestricted way of working and thinking.
