borne by Elise Berger is the dream of Christine Elise Kölnberger, who launched her eponymous womenswear label in early 2010 with the belief that garments have soul.

borne evolved from a desire to bring a new sense of individuality to our clothing and focus on the details that make a design unique. Quality and attention to detail are central to our ethos of creating a versatile wardrobe of innately feminine pieces with an effortless, cosmopolitan cool.

The dream started when Christine was a child spending afternoons in her grandfather’s workshop where he worked as a menswear tailor. She would play with buttons and scraps of fabric, learning his passion for his craft and falling in love with design.

After finishing school in Germany, Christine moved to Barcelona to study fashion design at the prestigious Escola Superior de Disseny (ESDi). After graduating at the top of her class she gained experience with Vivienne Westwood and Preen in London. Her dream finally became reality when Christine and her husband Adam decided to leave their life in London and move back to Barcelona to start borne together.

borne’s debut collection, “Little Seres” (‘Seres’ means ‘beings’ in Spanish), was launched for Spring/Summer 2011 and was immediately stocked by ASOS.com along with a handful of selected boutiques in the UK, Spain and Hong Kong.

With their third collection for Spring / Summer 2012, “In every beginning dwells a special magic...”, borne exhibited in Paris for the first time and spread its wings globally attracting new stockists from Japan, Singapore, the Middle East and the US.

The latest collection for Autumn / Winter 2012 sees borne continuing to develop and evolve with the introduction of outerwear and leather into the collection which will be available from stockists in ten countries worldwide.

Every borne garment is designed and made in the heart of Barcelona, Spain, and the majority of the fabrics used in production are also sourced locally. Working closely with a trusted team means that borne can ensure that each piece is made with the love and care it deserves.
