I have recently graduated in fashion design from the University of Westminster. My final collection explores silhouette and fabrication. My inspiration for shape comes from John Chamberlain and Charles James. I have draped shapes using the metal sculptures of John Chamberlain as a key reference, bending crinoline in the same way Chamberlain bends metal. My pattern cutting is influenced by Charles James observing iconic pieces of clothing and analysing the way they are made. This influenced me to use a lot of complex folding where each garment consists of only two or three pattern pieces. Fabrication is inspired by Russian soviet patterns and traditional islamic fashion. From my image references the shisha embroidery influenced me to use paillette sequins. I created many samples exploring the use of sequins, this led me to create surface decoration using folded sequins in a graphic manner.
