iD International Emerging Designer Awards 2017: Call For Entries

Now in its thirteenth year, the 2017 iD International Emerging Designer Awards is presented in partnership with the Otago Polytechnic which includes a fashion programme. The iD Awards offers designers from some of the world’s most prestigious design schools a platform which recognises and rewards the next generation of future designers.

The iD Awards is an exciting opportunity for designers to network, develop collaborations with other international rising designers, industry contacts, high profile guest judges, media, established designers and gain invaluable professional experience. Submit your entry and follow in the footsteps of previous entrants who have advanced their fashion careers with European fashion houses including Benetton Sisley, Vivienne Westwood and Burberry. This reflects the calibre of design talent competing in the iD Awards. There are no design restrictions, sections or specifications for collections, other than an emphasis on innovation, originality, creativity, quality and extension.

Eligibility

To enter the iD Awards designers must be recent graduates (within the past five years) or final year students from a recognised Diploma, BDes, BA or MA Fashion or fashion related course. In the event that you are one of the chosen finalists, availability to travel to Dunedin, New Zealand in the week of 18 - 26 March is essential, arriving no later than the afternoon of Tuesday 21 March.

How to Apply

To enter, fill in the entry form and submit a collection of up to five and no less than three outfits in the form of photographs of the collection. Please note that drawings of the collection will not be accepted. There are no specifications as to the season or target market of the collection. Participants are free to use any fabric/material that they choose and no design restrictions apply.

Between 25-30 designers will be selected to present their collection at the iD Awards. Applicants will be informed by email with regards to the results of the designers that have been chosen as the finalists. This process will be completed by mid-December 2016.

Judging

There are no sections or specifications for collections. Judges are looking for innovation, originality, creativity and quality of the collections. Judges will expect garments that are constructed in a professional manner. The judging panel will consist of well-known and respected international and national fashion professionals. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence concerning the results will be entered into.

iD International Emerging Designer Awards Judging & Show

The selected finalists will be required to be in Dunedin to show their collections at the iD International Emerging Designer Awards Judging Day and Show. Finalists will present their collections to the judging panel on 22 March 2017 and then the collections will then be shown at the iD Designer Awards Show on 23 March 2017 where winners will be announced. 

iD Dunedin Fashion Show

The iD Dunedin Fashion Show will take place on the evenings of Friday 24 and Saturday 25 March – all finalists will be given a complimentary ticket to attend this event. There will be an iD Designer Awards section as part of this show and judges will select the collections which will appear.

Prizes

| 1st Prize- NZ$6,000 cash and sponsors’ gift pack
| 2nd Prize - NZ$4,000 cash and sponsors’ gift pack
| 3rd Prize - NZ$2,000 cash and sponsors’ gift pack
| Other special prizes and opportunities to be announced.

Travel and Accommodation Expenses

Finalists will be responsible for travel arrangements to and from Dunedin, New Zealand.

Arrival and Departure 

Once finalists are announced they will receive a detailed timetable of events for their time in Dunedin. Finalists are to be in Dunedin by the afternoon of Tuesday 21 March, judging will commence at 9am on the following day. Departures can be scheduled from Sunday 26 March.
