BLACK SOMA

The aim of Black Soma fashion is to take women to a different state of mind similar to the emotions of euphoria brought about by the drug ‘soma’ in Aldous Huxley’s novel Brave New World. And that is exactly what BLACK SOMA’s dresses are about: the drug that will make you feel fabulous and transport you into a time that never existed before. They will set you dancing in another world; the warm, the richly colored, the infinitely friendly world of dazed feelings.

The interaction of different textures, surfaces and soft materials, as well as draped fabrics, forms the integral character of this label – known textures are recoated, letting them shine in a new light. Gleaming silk, sequins, classy lace, as well as fine leather and rough wool help to create a contemporary and seductively feminine look which will naturally remind you of the world’s famous fashion icons like Brigitte Bardot, Audrey Hepburn or Marlene Dietrich. They would have definitely loved BLACK SOMA’s dresses because the thing they all had in common was the sense for new spirits and unforgettable style.

For BLACK SOMA designer Lukas Butkiewicz, it was just a logical conclusion that sooner or later he will start creating some of the most beautiful dresses for the red carpet. His career as a designer started first by working as a model himself, and then as a junior art director. He adored traditional couture labels such as Dior, Balmain and Madame Vionnet which essentially influenced and inspired him and later his fashion too.

Ever since his childhood, Lukas always loved to create and understand things and had an insatiable curiosity for fashion. Therefore, it was just a matter of time before he started his studies in fashion design in which he graduated successfully.

After returning to Berlin from New York, where he worked for Avant Garde Group Threeasfour, Lukas founded his own fashion label BLACK SOMA and started working on his first collection which was successfully presented at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin summer 2013.
