London and Birmingham based womenswear designer, Bethany Hermon likes to focus on the beauty behind secrets, mental illnesses and those who like to express their most darkest and hidden thoughts into poetry. Has an eye for naive illustrative prints, elegant but eye catching silhouettes and designs for those who can appreciate an art through clothing, as well as being able to reflect themselves. Will also design for the young woman today, using vintage photography, the traditional American lifestyle and today’s youth, reflecting on a more personal aspect as inspiration.

Graduate Collection 2012

Inspired by a close friend who suffers from bipolar, using diary quotes, poetry and naive illustration. The busyness of the print with the rope-like chunky knitwear and the uneven cuts, slits and texture in the layered leather jacket shows the more complicated, difficult and straining aspects of bipolar. Mixed with the delicate pleating, pure white chiffon and elegant silk jersey shows a more calm, beautiful and the masked side of depression. The top heavy silhouettes show the struggles and suffocations a bipolar can feel.
