Arlette Ess is a visual artist working mainly in pen and ink, translating the drawings into sublime prints for fine textiles.

The subjects reference elements of our collective cultural identity, reflecting on ideas of who we are and where we come from. The intricate figurative drawings are multi-layered with references and possible associations, and can be perceived as emotional landscapes, a glimpse into a complex inner world.

With the signature 'fur' drawings Arlette is also seeking to uncover universal patterns of how things evolve, the mysterious Essence of things. some structures in nature seem to show us a frozen process, something invisible made visible.

Arlette has a background in fashion and a degree in Graphics from University of the Arts London, Camberwell College of Arts.
She has exhibited a range of art and design projects in group shows and galleries in Paris, Berlin, London, Lisbon, Tokyo, Taipei, Beijing and Shanghai.
After a stint of print design at Alexander McQueen, she decided to start her own eponymous label whilst continuing working on various commissions, collaborations and personal projects, mainly for fashion and interiors. After winning the 3rd prize in the first 'Grand Prix du carré' competition by Hermès Paris in 2019/2020, she is also working as a freelance artist for the famous Hermés Paris scarves.
Arlette is based in London.
