For our S/S '24 collection, we venture into Cusco, the storied capital of the ancient Inca empire, nestled in southeastern Peru. Perched at an elevation of 3,500 meters, this locale offers a breathtaking fusion of Inca architectural marvels and Spanish colonial elements under a dazzlingly cerulean sky, almost whitened by its closeness to the sun, crafting a landscape of surreal, otherworldly beauty.
This collection perfectly balances sharp, body-hugging lines and relaxed, flowing silhouettes. It's heavily influenced by the traditional voluminous Peruvian "polleras" or "melkkhay" skirts, with their multiple layers of fabric inspiring the 'Viracocha' dress, which flares into a dramatic maxi umbrella skirt. Particularly long lengths are a defining feature across the collection, from dresses and skirts to the 'Illapa' shirt sleeves. This season, our brand's signature tailoring is reimagined with the 'Auquis' Bermuda shorts replacing traditional trousers, complemented by the 'Apu' jacket, each piece named after Inca gods, weaving in threads of ancient history.
The collection gets creative with "Quipu" knots, an old Incan counting method, by adding fine silk tassel details to shorts and rethinking sleeves, while waxed cotton threads subtly wrap around the torso or back in dresses. Decorative buttons and hardware accents shaping figures of deities like Inti, the Sun God, and supernatural creatures with serrated octopus tentacles reminiscent of traditional Peruvian headwear, add a mythological dimension to each piece.
The colour scheme—consisting of black, indigo blue, white, and scarlet red— pops against Cusco's intense hues. Sustainable materials like organic cotton, tencel, and linen dominate, underscoring our commitment to environmental stewardship. For tailored pieces, a choice of off-white denim cotton provides a durable, structured base capable of supporting the weight of decorative ceramic chains. Collaborating with ceramic sculptress Angeliki Stamatopoulou, the collection features bespoke ceramic epaulettes and straps, introducing an artsy touch that enhances both the wearers' silhouette and their surroundings.
