My full graduate collection was entitled ‘Understated Glamour’. Inspired by the past eras 1920’ through to the 1940’s, I compared and explored contrasting tribal cultures. Understated Glamour juxtaposes the ideas of luxurious glamour, combined with the uses of raw natural sustainable materials. The female figure is always a starting point of inspiration for me and my designs. Studying the shape of the body, and the way in which we move allowed me to choose the curved seam lines in my garments. The idea of plaiting to join the intricate twisted seams, pulls together my original research; hair styling and hair as a raw, luxurious, natural, personal and sustainable material. The use of human hair comes from exploring the Victoria era and the way in which they mourned their dead which directly corresponds to my feelings of personal attachment to my work and the way in which I hand produce it. La Folie Du Ciel means Madness of the sky, inspired by the freedom of a bird and their graceful intelligence of the way in which they fly. The collection is of six hair ornaments each one captures a different stage of a bird in flight. These six hair ornaments were designed, prepared and made by hand, using the feather by produce of the food industry. The pieces can stand alone or work together as installation art, radical catwalk pieces or eccentric hair ornaments and masks.
