WAFA_SAIFI

Wafa Saifi's stunning new Spring/Summer 2012 collection - an ode to a brighter future in the midst of disarray - does not disappoint. With her fashion, Saifi paints a beautiful picture of limitless possibilities, faraway lands and adventures close at hand. Using chiffon, sheer georgette, crispy crepe, knitted jersey and stunning sheeted sequences, Saifi creates a new line that is both graceful and charismatic. Her craft is a delicate one, and with this collection she finds the exquisite balance between the timelessness of art and the contemporary chic of fashion. From flowers of the Orient in a sultry paradise to the charm of the Californian girl, Saifi's latest collection is inspired by her travels - the cultures she experiences and the people she meets. Saifi is a cultural magnet and this collection is the result of the heady concoction of all that she encounters. The colours are vivid - powerful blues, greens, orange, pink and coral jostle and flaunt. The electricity of the colours leave their wearer invigorated and enlivened. Extremes are contrasted - modernity meets romance and translucency meets opacity to forge a charmingly effortless elegance. The blue georgette blazer, the pink jersey dress with metallic sleeves, the beige crepe shorts and the coral organza dress - these are garments that speak of sensuality and sophistication, worldliness and whimsicality.

About the Designer

wafa is based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She studied at Parsons The New School for Design and graduated in 2006. Her collections are produced in India.

Wafa Saifi launched her eponymous label ‘wafa saifi’ at Dubai fashion week in Spring/Summer 2009. The response was overwhelming – a unique talent had arrived. Since then her collections have been available and sought after in boutiques throughout Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Mumbai.
Saifi began her fashion career early - on graduation from high school in Dubai she spent a year working at a local design house in Sri Lanka. Working under designers who supplied clothes to well-known retail chains such as Victoria’s Secret and Banana Republic, Saifi gained an invaluable insight into the fashion industry.
In 2002 she took her love of fashion to the next step and enrolled at the prestigious Parson’s School of Design in New York. Her time in the city was formative – a stint spent interning at Jill Stuart in the summer of 2004 gave her an enhanced understanding and appreciation for the various facets of the fashion industry, and one that remains with her to this day.
Saifi graduated in 2006 with a BFA in Fashion Design. For her final thesis collection she did what most good designers do: she looked to her roots and heritage for inspiration; in her case, an Indian background. The final product was a luxury womenswear collection inspired by the opulent Rajasthani royal family. Pieces ranged from draped cocktail dresses to shorts tailored from luxury silks. These early pieces have come to embody her design philosophy: beautiful, youthful clothing that at once emphasizes and flirts with a woman’s sensual femininity whilst never compromising on elegant or sophisticated design. Saifi makes clothes for women of the world: not overtly trend-conscious, but rather, influenced in style by travel and experience.
In 2008 Saifi returned to India. Her aim: to not just talk the talk of her design philosophy. To this end she followed her dream and established her own clothing label. In 2010 Saifi took the collection a step further when she showed internationally at Miami Fashion Week. Currently ‘Wafa Saifi’ can be found in stores across India and the Middle East with future plans to expand her brand to different parts of the world.
