TIMOTHYK

A personally simple process that ends up sounding complex and sadly pretentious when put into words: I approached my designs with more of a fine art perspective, usually being inspired by non-physical cognitive concepts, such as a theory that is intangible or has no actual physical presence. Such as this collection, which is inspired by the concept of human nature told by the likes of Plato, Aristotle, and Freud, as well as the idealistic theories behind Marxism. I create this mental story/mood, and then connect it with a physical creative stimulant, this time being the art of Kazimir Malevich and Franz Kline. Lastly, I materialize that creative spark/story into its design manifestation on paper and fabric.

Through my own house I produce clothing to my own vision. I like to bridge three attributes into the identity of this house: the ideology of my own personal identity, a New York d.i.y. street punk; the progressive yet classically inspired design aesthetic represented in these illustrations and my portfolio; as well as the ideals upheld by all past Haute-Couture houses in Paris. I want to create beautiful clothes for the right reasons. Not for fame or money, I am not interested in those, but to create clothing as “l'art pour l'art” (art for art’s sake), independent of the claptrap of the modern fashion industry. Clothing to then be worn by a client who understands that clothes are merely an outward expression of the inner self, just another language we use to help communicate the structures and contents of our mind. The type of connection that an art collector has with the purchase of a work of fine art. In the end to have our house’s dogma to be an influence, no matter how small, on the evolution in how we perceive our culture.
