Layers of insulation separate the rich and the poor from truly encountering one another… Travels through India have inspired my collection, focusing on the stark, visible contrast between rich and poor. Through developing my practice of sustainable design, I have chosen to incorporate discarded products, such as saris, t-shirts and shoes, as recycling is key to the survival of those living in the slums. Looser, draping garments feature alongside more structured solid garments, reflecting the different ways of life and contrast between - India, a high-rise, new superpower, and – India, home to Asia’s largest slum.
