SCHIPPERARQUES

“I knew that I had come face to face with someone whose mere personality was so fascinating that, if I allowed to do so, it would absorb my whole nature, my whole soul, my very art itself". Summer 2013 is inspired by Oscar Wilde’s ‘Picture of Dorian Grey’ published in 1890. This second of three collections features the unavoidable patina of the soul as it grows older turning into an uncarriable burden of memories and regrets. What happens when the soul darkens like a Midwestern sky before a storm? On the outside one still looks like the perfect paper perfection of a magazine cover, but the obvious difference between an 18 and a 60 year old is experience; decades of memories, love, envy and insecurities. The older the soul grows the more obstructing and darker it gets.

About the Designer

SCHIPPERARQUES's picture

Boris is based in Madrid / Antwerp , Belgium. He studied at Gerrit Rietveld academy Amsterdam. His collections are produced in Spain.

Schipper/Arques is about celebrating shape and texture in a collection with strong contrasts between structure and fluidity,
combining underground influences with couture finishing techniques.
With attention to detail, a sophisticated collection both fragile and masculine pictures a world of romantic minimalism and laid back elegance against a backdrop of refined but militarized fetishism.
A passion for cut and construction form the foundation for every collection, supplemented by deliberately unpretentious but intricate pieces to balance the look.
Boris Schipper and Tomas Pedrosa Arques started working together in 1998 under the name Art of Vanity, first as stylists for clubs, music videos and fashion, but later evolving to attending high level private clients from New York to Monaco with
their designs.
To make a clear distinction from their work for Art of Vanity the Schipper/Arques label was started in Belgium as a prêt à
porter label in 2008, showing in Paris during fashion week in October 2008 for the first time.
