This collection was inspired by exoskeletons, self-adornment and the reusing of materials. The work was informed by footage of a group of dresser crabs upon a ship wreck. Instead of the moss and seaweed they would normally use to camouflage themselves, they were picking up scraps of lace and pearls. We all use our surroundings and environment to inform how we dress as a form of expression and also as protective camouflaging, the dresser crab so beautifully reminded me of this.

About the Designer

Riona is based in LONDON, United Kingdom. She studied at University of Ulster. Her collections are produced in United Kingdom.

Born in Belfast, Riona Treacy studied at the University of Ulster, achieving a BA in Fashion and Textile Design and progressed to an MA in Textile Material Product. After moving to London she undertook a number of internships for designers such as Mary Katrantzou and Alexander McQueen.
Whilst on the embroidery team at McQueen, two of Riona's designs were used in the Womenswear A/W 2010 (Alexander's his last collection).
Specialising in textile print for womenswear and with a healthy obsession of the female form, Riona's Masters collection accentuated the body through engineered print and laser cutting. Simplistic aesthetics paired with complex processes result in her garments being conceptual yet wearable.
Riona works with muted colours, keeping the focus on the texture, shape and design of her pieces. Her pieces are designed, printed and hand made by Riona in her studio in London.
