About the Designer
Dudu is based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. His collections are produced in Brazil.
Neon is a Brazilian clothing line created by designers Dudu Bertholini and Rita Comparato mixing urban and beach wear. Launched in 2002, Neon is known for its good-humored elegance and optimism. College friends in São Paulo, Dudu worked as a stylist and Rita as a pattern maker. Dudu was invited by photographer J.R. Duran to style a swimwear story; he then collaborated with Rita in creating exclusive, one-of-a-kind bathing suits. Thrilled with the results, they decided to keep going, and within a year they had created a line of unique beachwear.
Their one-piece bathing suits were handcrafted, mixing Lycra with vintage cotton, using a diversity of materials such as rope, leather, wood and ceramic beads. Soon sales started happening all over Brazil, as well as abroad. The name Neon translates its shining spirit and elegance, a trademark of the brand.
A year later, Fabio Gurjão created the first signature print, an explosive and colorful graphic design. Manufacturing their own materials in a custom made print transformed Neon. What once were one-of-a-kind pieces, moved on to mass production to be sold in retail.
In July 2003 they had their first fashion show, it took place in Dudu's living room.
In 2004, producer Cacá Ribeiro joined the duo as their third partner.
For every collection, different artists are commissioned to create the prints. Fernando Vilella, Andres Sandoval and Goya Lopes are some of them.
100% silk, mesh, cotton and denim are the primary materials. There is also a line of shoes and accessories created by them for each collection.
Today there are 35 shops in Brazil that carry Neon. Outside of Brazil, there is showroom representation in Tokyo and New York.
Neon shows its collections at São Paulo Fashion Week.
