About the Designer
Amit is based in New Delhi, India. He studied at National institute of fashion technology and graduated in 2002. His collections are produced in India.
After graduating from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi in 2002, Amit started his career showcasing his collections through student competitions all over the world and working with some of the best-known labels in the country, including Tarun Tahiliani. Later he headed the design team of Creative Impex, part of the Creative Group, one of India’s most-reputed garment manufacturing companies, producing high-fashion clothes for brands like Alberta Ferretti, Moschino, Jean Paul Gaultier and Kenzo, to name a few.
In 2008 he started MORPHE, as his eponymous label, in collaboration with the Creative Group. MORPHE, the label, is about the metamorphosis of raw influences, both fantastical and mundane, into clothes that are modern, eclectic and that transcend singular fads. Blending forms, shapes, materials and details they make a woman feel beautiful regardless of where she is or the role she is playing.
MORPHE products are designed and manufactured with a lot of thought, care and precision. Utilising the best of the skilled labour and techniques available locally and merging them with the most progressive of aesthetics, they tend to have a timeless appeal. Making the entire process of making clothes an enjoyable experience and providing a dignified and pleasant environment, for each and everyone of the people involved, is one of the core principles of the brand.
The debut runway show in India Fashion Week was applauded by Vogue as one of the best shows of the year, while Marie Claire and Elle both awarded Amit as the Debutant of the year. He has been nominated as one of the finalists for the British Council’s Young Creative Entrepreneur Award and was invited by the Dutch DFA to Amsterdam as part of a design delegation. Recently Amit won the Marie Claire Award for the Best Western-Wear Designer (brands established within 10 years).
