Miranda Keyes is a sculptor, jeweller and costume designer with an alchemical approach to bodily adornment; commonly discarded materials, lent permanence are transmuted; salmon skins become iridescent cloth, luminous trout roe, dripping jewels.
Keyes, now twenty-two has dedicated herself for the past five years to the development of various unique methods of preservation. Presenting her first collection in 2010, Keyes has since experimented with a wide range of preservation techniques, completed two collections and one major collaboration, her work has been covered in international fashion editorials, and stocked in Berlin, Hamburg and London.
The current focus of attention has been the development of a tanning process for treating locally sourced and otherwise discarded Salmon skins. The resulting leather is pliable and strong, as demonstrated in the latest collection of restraints and harnesses, all tanning is done by hand in small batches at the studio.
