Fiona Apple once sung "...whats so impressive about the diamonds, except the mining..." INDUSTRIAL EVOLUTION is MICHAEL HOCKEYS homage to the unsung heroes of architecture and industrial design. The building materials. Inspired by structures the Eiffel Tower, The Guggenheim Museum in Spain, The Sydney Opera house, The Sistine Chapel and revolutionary designers, Marc Newson, Thomas Edison and Philip Starck. We dissect the elements that go into the product. The humble nuts and bolts that keep the Eiffel Tower standing, the rubber tyre that gets us from A to B, the paintbrush that helped to paint masterpieces. By looking at these objects as something more than what they are intended, we give new life to these simple inventions. As has become a MICHAEL HOCKEY signature, we use hand crafted elements this season hand stitching, hand tooled leather, hand cut leather tassels, and hand cut car tyre heels.

Michael is based in Australia.

From his debut collection in 2001 under "michael" he was a press favourite and one to watch. After a hiatus from "michael" to hone his skills and explore, he is back with a sharper more mature vision than ever.
"I always knew I would be back designing my own label but I needed the freedom to learn without the everyday pressures of running a business." After 5 years of working for large companies and consulting for numerous brands, Hockey has broadened his range of talents and is poised to take is position on the global fashion scene.
Michael draws inspiration from his travels around the world - different cultures, surroundings, wanderers on the street and local artisans. On a recent trip he discovered the all but lost art of handmade footwear and Michael Hockey Footwear was born.
"They say shoes make the man. This is partly true, but I never think the shoes should wear the man - the man makes the shoes his own. My work is about freedom to make it work with you, your lifestyle and your own unique look."
Like the designer himself Michael Hockey is original, visionary but ultimately approachable.
