'Moving Forward’ pays tribute to Sarajevo and the 30th anniversary of the 1984 Winter Olympics. Which was the only Olympic Games held in the former Yugoslavia. AW '14 is inspired by the contrast between this glorious sporting event and the devastating siege of Sarajevo a few years later. 'Moving Forward' is an ode to Sarajevo and it's people, who despite horrendous conditions, never gave up hope and somehow managed to retain their dark humour and creativity. Mehle hails from a winter sports nation and Slovenia's success in Sarajevo is a happy memory from our childhood. As children we loved 'Vucko' the games official mascot, who we have co-opted as a mascot for AW '14. We decided to juxtapose the spirit of togetherness that an event like the Olympics creates with the complete devastation that war can bring. We combined stories we have heard from friends about everyday life in war-torn Sarajevo with the undeniable feeling of optimism that the Olympics creates. MÊHLÊ‘s AW ‘14 signature pieces were made out of moving blankets. The collection mixes rich burgundy red, navy and taupe, seen in a range of oversized coats, bomber jackets and relaxed technical outerwear in innovative fabrics. AW '14 has seen the continued exploration of chic soft separates and dropped waist pleated dresses in performance textiles.
