MALDOROR
The medieval movement in iconography describes Virgin Mary with Caucasian features, but with black skin. As opposed to the general aesthetics of the 14th century, this phenomenon became very popular - from La Moreneta in Cathalonia to Matka Boska Częstochowska in Poland. This collection takes inspirations from different kinds of medieval religious fanatics - hermits and flagellants, as well as from simplicity and utilitarism of lower-class clothing. The shapes in the collection originate in the tradition of Haute Couture, but they were confronted with details found traditionally in sportswear, which resulted in more universal appeal. Monumental, simple shapes and voluminous cuts gain more utilitarian characteristics. The tension is achieved not by the use of different colors, but with different textures of textiles. This is fully visible by reducing the color palette to simple black. Coarse, natural fabrics - flax, raw silks, virgin wool - are confronted with thin sportswear polyester, silk tafetta with lurex thread and knits made of VHS tape.

About the Designer
grzegorz is based in Warsaw, Poland. His collections are produced in Poland.
Maldoror is an ever changing label originated in Poland. The Middle Eastern heritage has left a strong mark on the style. The savageness of old Slavic spirits buried deep in the ground, meeting quick changes coming from the west, ending in the chaotic and innovative point of view. The aim of designer Grzegorz Matląg is to create pieces not only challenging by their appearance, but as well being unique and not repeatable in large numbers. Used clothing became the favorite source of fabrics, which ensures originality of each piece. Designing for those who see beauty in the passing and imperfection.
