LONVAL

Gaspard de la nuit, or the "treasurer of the night", is the title of three poems written by Aloysius Bertrand in 1842. In 1908, Ravel took those poems and translated them into oneiric and intrincated music, creating one of the most challenging piano pieces that ever existed. I based my collection mainly on his music, I created meticulous metal rings laces to evoke the fast chords. Being Gaspard's original form Gizbar, a Persian word, I also found pertinent to use some some odalisque inspiration alla Poiret and Ballets Russes. Thousands of metal rings and hundreds of chains later, I present my most elaborated and detailed collection so far. // Photo credit: ETAT www.atelieretat.com

LONVAL's picture

Chemí is based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her collections are produced in Argentina.

Mica Chemmes (also goes by the name Chemí) is a multifaceted artist whose fields of production include art direction, styling, painting, and accessory design among others. As she is constantly in search of the “temps perdu”, her designs evoke an imaginary of Ballets Russes, Surrealism, Belle Époque, Art Nouveau and of the mid-war period. She is also part of the fashion photography duo ETAT, along with photographer Fernando Moreno Andrade.
Her latest project, Lonval, named after the unforgettable Léa of homonymous surname from Colette’s novel Cheri, triggered an intimate relationship between her and her creations, which are done after hours, sometimes days, of obsessive craftsmanship weaving ring by ring. All this results in timeless collections that are subject to additions of new pieces if they suit the mood of the theme. All accessories are limited and numbered if not unique.
