Central Saint Martins alumna, Lesley de Freitas’ work has been featured in a number of influential high fashion publications including Vogue Italia (http://www.vogue.it/talents/vogue-per-i-giovani/2012/09/lesley-de-freitas), Another Magazine Loves, Diane Pernet’s A Shaded View of Fashion and That Fake Blog, to name a few. Having cut her teeth at Boudicca, de Freitas absorbed the perfection and culture of their work, enhancing her own personal design aesthetic, influencing the quality and finish of her collections.
Her spring/summer 2013 collection ‘FLORA’ is inspired by the air of ostentatious glamour and breezy elegance that was Palm Springs in the sixties and seventies; with cinematic references of iconic silver screen sirens. This sophisticated, refreshing and optimistic collection, comprises day wear which seamlessly flows through to evening wear and comes in a veneer of bright sugary hues underpinned by intelligent cut, artisanal finishing and feminine seduction. The textiles designed for this collection take their cue from Jacqueline Kennedy’s favoured couturiers Balenciaga & Hubert de Givenchy, of bright brocades, old gold and richly embroidered silk chiffons. The silhouette is updated through an interplay of negative space and layering in luxe double silk marrocains, and an abstracted floral leitmotif.
With the addition of signature couture elements to this collection, each piece is 100% handmade in England, finished to atelier standard - featuring 'one off' unique pieces, highly embellished with hand beading, embroidery, and delicate 3d floral applique.
