We are all connected. We are action and reaction, we react to provocation, we resist the same forces and we lean on one another. Human interaction lives through gestures, attitudes, cooperation, conflicts and even rivalry. Human Connectivity, a collection by Lara Khoury, was entirely inspired by those dynamics, by this game of action and reaction, of human give and take. The fabric’s ebb and flow, its movement and stiffness, its tension and relief now takes on human characteristics, and is nigh but a game of words and provocation. The collection is reduced to a word, a smile, a worry, an emotion.
About the Designer
Lara is based in Beirut, Lebanon. She studied at ESMOD Paris and graduated in 2006. Her collections are produced in Lebanon.
Lara Khoury opens her eyes to the world on a January night in 1985. Eighteen years later, she joins the Ecole Superieure de la Mode de Paris (ESMOD) with the sole intention of drawing the world and dressing its inhabitants, creating universes of textile. Her desire grew with every pull of a thread and needle, and was concretized in September 2006 when she joined Elie Saab in Beirut. Thrown into the world of Haute Couture, Pret a porter and Fashion, the dynamics of the industry unravelled before her eyes, and it was not long before her desire for fashion took a life of its own. Lara Khoury decides to start expressing her own creations, born as ideas still fragile and conceptual, always open, often unexplored. The designer’s sensitivity resonates and the brand ILK saw the light between 2008 and 2009. At the same time, her very first collections are put forth to the general public in Starch, Beirut, Rabih Kayrouz’s laboratory of new ideas, and showroom for contemporary young Lebanese designers.
In 2010, the momentum increases, fuelled by favourable press and an enthused audience, and Lara Khoury finds the assurance to launch her first eponymous collection; Lara Khoury became Lara Khoury and settles in the heart of Beirut, in a workshop on rue Gouraud.
Today, the fashion designer has found herself a space, intimate and personal, crucial and essential to the realization of a certain plenitude, an assumed creation, and a desire to transmit and share sensitivity and emotion.
Lara Khoury’s style is sincere, bold, moving and minimalist. It embodies a contemporary and experimental trend, continuously concerned with detail, passion for innovation and freedom. Her Spring 2011 collection was recently launched among friends and esteemed guests.
On May 2011, Lara Khoury is selected to represent Lebanon on the second generation of the Maison Méditerranéenne des Métiers de la Mode in Marseille (France). This program subsists a platform of artistic and cultural cooperation between Euro-Mediterranean countries. A unique concept yet to come, MMMM’s mission is to unite, reveal and support young fashion designers based on both sides of the Mediterranean Sea, offering them Master Class between Marseille and Paris, with renowned icons of the international fashion scene (including Dior and Chanel), as well as others from the creative and economic identity of Marseille (Department of Economics, Industry and Employment, Department of Culture and Communication, Marseille Provence 2013, European Capital of Culture…)
In 2011, on the west shore of the White Sea, Lara Khoury takes time to develop her techniques, her network and her knowledge not so far from her hometown, definitely oriental but also able to appreciate civilizations from all around the world.
