About the Designer

Jenny is based in New York, United States. She studied at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and graduated in 2010. Her collections are produced in United States.

Jenny Lai graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2010. Before creating NOT, she explored the fashion industry from all different angles around the world. She studied traditional artisans' techniques in a studio in Mexico city, designed jewelry with a women's cooperative in the "thousand hills" of Rwanda, and worked with the atelier of Viktor & Rolf in Amsterdam. She returned to New York to form her own thoughts on the medium of clothing: translation through translation, medium on top of medium, a brand representative of the fluidity of our world. 
Based in New York City, NOT is a studio focused on the experience of dressing: the constant dialogue between garment and wearer as they transform each other. The wearer approaches NOT with curiosity and sometimes a bit of discomfort but ultimately, challenge builds confidence.
 
It is dressing as heightened awareness: of weight and exposure, of affected vision and hearing, of height, touch, balance. Unafraid of standing alone, the NOT woman defines herself as being unlike the rest. NOT is always about the personal experience and an active state of mind and body.
