HAYLEY_GRUNDMANN

Based on the London launderettes, how they are slowly disappearing off our streets, how this once everyday necessity- once social hubs, are now shrines of dated decor. This collection was about making this into something beautiful and precious. I was given a donation of crystals from Swarovski on supporting my concept, with this it helped me really create something special from the ordinary.

hayley is based in London, United Kingdom. She studied at Central Saint Martins and graduated in 2012. Her collections are produced in United Kingdom.

I have just recently completed my BA Fashion Design with Knitwear course at Central Saint Martins and have been awarded a First Class Honors. My collection entitled 'Launderette' was shown at the press show and has also been featured on fashion blogs such as Susie Bubble's 'Style Bubble' and also for photo shoots at the V&A Museum and for MAC Makeup in New York.
My work, like for my final collection, is all about making the most of what it is that has inspired you, whether that is actually using the plastic laundry bags to knit with for my final collection inspired by the Launderette, or in past work, using coins, lollypop sticks, springs and old t-shirts to fully embrace the theme or concept. Its about pushing knitwear and womenswear in new ways, using unusual materials and creating new shapes, but always keeping it feminine at the same time. Letting the knit decide how the piece will develop.
I have really developed my skills and style through working at John Galliano in Paris, doing the knitwear for Gareth Pugh in London, working at Giles Deacon and Alexander Mcqueen on placements, as well as through paid commissions for costumes for London Russian Ballet School and for dressmaking.
Before I had studies on Art and Design Foundation Course at Central Saint Martins and before this I did a BTEC Fashion Design with Clothing at Amersham College.
