Inspired by film noir in which the stark contrast between light and dark create a sinister and tense atmosphere. The role of the Femme Fatale with her seductive charms and dangerous motives have inspired the use of sheer chiffon in blouses, creating delicate and provocative garments. The act of smoking, trench coats and asymmetry have all arisen from this research, ‘…the femme fatale tortures her lover in an asymmetrical relationship, denying confirmation of her affection….’ Her masculine authority in a love affair has inspired the use of braces on trousers and a feminine approach to dungarees. Paintings by Caravaggio have inspired the use of draping, making shadows in fabric by folding, pleating and ruffling. The use of black patent leather for ruffles reflects light whilst creating a dramatic silhouette on the shoulder. Latex fabric is typically linked with fetish wear, I have ignored these associations using it for yokes in blouses and ruffles on dungarees. Moody, solitary, and strongly independent, who can she deceive with her delicate, autonomous and provocative appearance?
