Grounded and then airborne. Flying to falling. Ready to break impact against the ground. To parachute is to prepare for arriving with grace, strength, and control. ELOHIM’s Spring Summer 2012 collection is inspired by the concept metaphor of PARACHUTE. A cloth cover that prepares its wearer for a smooth landing from mid-air, the design inspiration of the parachute also refers to a material culture that connects us with the mechanical efforts of man to transcend himself/herself, yet every so often having to come back down to ground. The shape and mechanism of the parachute are expressed in the details of piping, line cut, structural shapes inspired by it throughout the collection. The bold graphical style is seen in the blocks of color, alongside geometrical and asymmetrical patterns of cut, with the strong primary colors & neon's of red, orange, electric blue, fuchsia, black & white. Connoting the voluminous movement of a parachute in flight are the oversized labels, draping cape-inspired silhouette and drop crotch pants. The collection is clean cut, befitting a wearer that is disciplined, athletic, always in motion and ready for action, inspiring a contemporary notion of masculinity that is as much about the smart suit as the industrial suit in which you deal with life’s physical elements and the one you can feel free in, against the wind. PARACHUTE is an inventive take on the changing male silhouette for the one who is at home maneuvering the technology in his life and engaging with the natural elements at the same time, while always being free to move in the way life needs him to.
