Sylvio Giardina

Sylvio Giardina was born in Paris and moved to Rome to attend the Rome Fashion and Costume Academy, where he is currently based. After a renowned collaboration with haute-couture designer Fernando Gattinoni, he established the brand, Grimaldi Giardina, and was featured in the official calendar of a Paris Haute-Couture fashion event. From there he moved onto the launch of a new label, Sylvio Giardina, while also working in visual arts as one half of creative duo Stato di Famiglia. The work of Sylvio Giardina is focused on the search for a new silhouette, subverting current aesthetic standards believing that the female body represents a free and flexible vision, and opposing the glossy image of slim and conventional proportions portrayed by the traditional fashion scene. In drawing a soft body shape while at the same time being dynamic, Giardina redefines proportions creating new lines and sinuous volumes. The leading theme is the idea of the female body’s sphericity accompanying every item created to make her body appear free.
