ROBIN SCHULIÈ

...curates online collection

In its first month the online shop was hosted and curated by Robin Schulié, head buyer of the iconic Maria Luisa store in Paris. We asked him about his past, present and future in the fashion industry:

I was born, I live and I work in Paris. I started out by working as a PR for Pressing at the end of the 90s and a new fresh wind of talents was blowing in Paris, such as the new Antwerp wave, Jeremy Scott, Bernhard Willhelm, Bless and so on... exciting times!

Back then I realised PR was not enough to support these talents as the press was pretty lazy and I started to be a slave to the advertising brands: the only solution was to push these brands directly to the final customers and that is why i started to work for the Kokon To Zai store in Paris, that had recently opened. Shortly after my activities expanded to Kokon To Zai’s London main store as the talent scout, buyer because founder, Marjan Pejoski was too much into his own collection.

However the only person I always wanted to work for/with has always been Maria Luisa, she always stood for the same values and ideals I was pursuing: sense of style, utter Parisianism, constant fashion innovation and creativity. So here i am, at Maria Luisa.

Recession or strong opportunity...
Both of course. It will definitely help to regulate some of the crazy excesses of the past years, but we have to be aware that the big bad wolf will learn quickly from his mistakes and will come back soon to haunt the little red riding hood... so it won’t be that simple.

Online VS offline...
I am always online but never to be seen.

I got where I am...
For i believed in emerging talents.

My vice is...
Actually legal but the consequences sometimes not.

Creativity...
Comes at night when watching cheesy Youtube videos with friends.

Nothing inspires me like...
My friends and my boyfriend.

Did you know...
That fashion people are the most perfectionist people ever?

Fashionable, or stylish, or both...
Fashion is expensive but style comes for free, nonetheless it is quite good to have some money to afford these much beloved fashiony things from time to time.

If I could...
I would bring back Jurgi Persoons in the business because he is my favourite designer ever.

Fashion can sometimes....
Be a pain in the a * *.
