Pola Thomson

...faith in fate

Pola Thomson is a Chilean-born, NY based fashion designer. She graduated with a BA in fashion design from the Chilean Catholic University and also took short courses at Central Saint Martins in London and PARSONS in New York. She received her couture training through private lessons she took at atelier Laura Rivas Vial, a Chilean couturier that represented Nina Ricci back in Chile during the 1970s. Pola has also worked in the editorial sector, as fashion stylist and contributing editor for several magazines. Her inspiration comes from her Chilean background; a primary topic bringing into her designs an aura that captures the magic of nature and the wildness of landscapes. Pola integrates this value in a sophisticated, elegant and subtle way into each piece, resulting in a quiet and subtle yet bold and charming overall look which also fits a wide range of body types by building up a size-less pattern block silhouette. Pola wants women wearing POLA THOMSON to feel at ease, protected and seductive in a smart, timeless way which will suit their daily life and future times.

Nothing inspires me like…
Life. I’m quite adventurous. I embrace sailing through life, experiencing it as it happens, going through it with taking its changes as knowledge and letting myself be amused by it. I take all life experiences and transfigure them into fashion, redefining how to step out in the world.
POLA THOMSON women are free and dynamic, fearless, finding a place to inhabit within their very own selves through what they wear. Regardless of the context or place, even time, they create their very own space.

I hope…
To stay true to myself and stand by my choices, to be able to build my brand by keeping on doing what I love to do the most.

Cultural influences…
My background in a globalised context. I come for the very last piece of land in the south of the world, although growing up I was exposed to other cultures. I have a mixed heritage, including Scottish, Italian, Spanish, and remote Russian. Since I was a child, I’ve been able to travel lots. All this defined me as a character with a wide view but also with the inner introspectiveness of someone raised in an isolated context. As a result, I managed to find my own voice and build up my own idea of sophistication.

I got where I am...
By not giving up, by not taking “no” for an answer, by believing in myself and standing by my determinations.

Fashion can sometimes...
Be the things which which I believe I can most powerfully give amusement to others change the world that surrounds me.

I sense…
Beauty when it is not obviously there, where usually no one else sees it. I have a particular idea of beauty andit is not the absolutely perfect one; that bores me. I like to observe that which doesn’t appear to be appealing at first sight. A trace of imperfection in a harmonic total brings something unexpected and that is what fascinates me.

Money makes…
Everything run smoothly, I see it as a channel of energy that flows and allows you to do things.

Love now because…
Now is the best time to do it. Love as much as you can, your dear ones, a lover, those around you, even the ones you dislike, by exercising compassion. It is all about being able to give love and be loved.

Faith in…
Fate. We make decisions every day, though I’m convinced there is something beyond, something that has already been set up for us, a purpose for why we had have been thrown into this world.

Creativity comes from…
Unexpected places. It is this random amount of sequences that together create something else. Creation is such an amusing process.

Incompetence...
Is something I cannot tolerate. In what I do and, in my way of living in general, I give it my all. That’s why I believe I can’t tolerate incompetence because I relate it with a lack of desire and giving; for me it's all or nothing.

I love getting older...
And wiser. Now I realise so many more things which I before ignored. I’m more self-confident. I feel like stepping out from this sort of fog. I feel aware.
