...logic means nothing and irrationality takes control.

Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and of Italian descent, Candela Turco began her artistic career, at the young age of nine, studying painting and drawing at her father’s atelier, and later at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires. Candela quickly became interested in the world of fashion and moved to New York to pursue a degree in Fashion Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she graduated with honours. Pasionae is a label and a project inspired by the arts and philosophy that honors the concept of l’art pour l’art (art for art’s sake). Pasionae was created based on the concept of passion as described in ancient philosophy. “Passion” is derived from the Latin word “Passĭo” and the Greek word “Pathos”, which mean “suffering” or “anguish”, and the passions were understood to be disorders or agitations of the soul, contrary to reason and nature. Ancient Greeks and Romans saw one’s vulnerability to the passions, and the impossibility to control them, as the loss of the essence of human dignity and a humiliation and submission of the self. Pasionae draws from this principle and creatively applies it toward fashion, emphasizing passion, the irrational exaltation of the soul, as its main inspirational muse.

Nothing inspires me like…
Irrationality. The most interesting creations can only be achieved by unconscious thoughts and passionate states of mind, very far from reason, where logic means nothing and irrationality takes control.

I hope...
I never hope too much. Hoping and wishing are unpleasant feelings that irritate me. It disturbs me to know that hope, like anything else that is overused, can easily be exhausted at any moment, leaving one with no expectations.

Cultural influences…
Feed our imagination in the most unimaginable way possible.

I got where I am...
By following my instincts and trying not to please anybody. It has been my imagination that has transported me to the most stimulating places that I have ever visited.

Fashion can sometimes...
Be the most unfashionable and banal thing when misinterpreted. I like to think of fashion solely as the medium of expression of my work and nothing more significant than that. Oscar Wilde’s quote “Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months” is a good reminder that fashion needs to be thought of as no more than an artist’s medium of expression.

Did you know…
That if I were to represent life in one object, it would probably be an extremely jagged-edge piece in a screaming vermillion color, bleeding red and purple tones from its junctions? Such an object would portray a contrast between paranoia and nostalgia.

Creativity comes from...
Those moments when we experience beauty through our senses and urgently feel the need to recreate it our own way, using our individual style, leaving reason behind and being faithful only to that distinct image that keeps springing from our minds.

If I could...
I would choose not to be aware. The unrestricted spontaneity and genuine thoughts that awareness destroys is a terrible loss for mankind. I would choose to completely disregard and not be aware of society and its rules.

Love is...
That disturbing pain generated by exquisite beauty that stimulates all of our senses and keeps us yearning throughout life. Love is those subliminal moments that never leave a person.

My vice is…
Sex and wine, preferably Malbec. These two things, especially when combined, allow us to swallow reality in a gentler way, softening its harsh edges and enabling us to enjoy pleasures fulfilling our untamed desires and attractions.

I suck…
At anything that requires an analytical mind to follow a secure path. I’m not compatible with organizational systems and was never able to successfully complete anything involving the use of a repetition of patterns or habits.

Pain comes from...
Admiring the most beautiful works of art, when the search for pleasure causes us to experience multiple passions. It comes from our inability to control such passions.

My dreams are…
As colourful and unexpected as my designs. Just as with a beautiful and a poor design, only a fine line exists between my best dreams and my worst nightmares.

I don't think...
There is anything more miserable than going through life with a lack of curiosity. Those who don’t constantly seek new sensations are impassive and ungifted, I will know life is meaningless when I cease to be excessively curious.

I wouldn't want...
To ever become more lucid than passionate in life. I would choose to have more illogical thoughts, unreasonable feelings and unconscious actions than all the lucidity in this world.
