MFA 2010

...call for entries for the El Botón-MANGO Fashion Awards competition
MANGO presents the third edition of the “el Botón”-MANGO Fashion Awards, a competition which aims to promote the international projection of talented young fashion designers. Participants will have the opportunity to present their collections before a prestigious jury and compete for €300,000 in prize money, the largest sum offered to date in a competition of this type.
The registration period commenced in November and designers will have until Monday, 15 March 2010 to present their applications. In late May, at the fashion show for the 2010 Autumn-Winter season, the jury, made up of representatives of MANGO and five prestigious international design schools (Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design, London; Institut Français de la Mode, Paris; Istituto Marangoni, Milan; Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp; and l’Escola Superior de Disseny, Barcelona), will select the 10 finalists from all the applications presented.
In the previous editions, the jury of the “el Botón”-MANGO Fashion Awards had two outstanding chairmen, the acclaimed designers Valentino and Oscar de la Renta. Respectively, they awarded the prize to the winning Belgian duo Sandrina Fasoli & Michaël Marson and, last year, to the South Korean designer, Lee Jean Youn.
In the last edition, the 10 finalists were given €18.000 to develop their collections and the opportunity to exhibit their designs in Barcelona’s emblematic avenue, Passeig de Gràcia. The lavish exhibition, located at the intersection of the streets Aragón and Rosellón, consisted of 20 perspex cubicles. Each cubicle contained 4 mannequins, dressed in the collections of the ten finalists.
This season, MANGO is launching the new event with the key message “Success is for the brave”. The commercial is set in a post-war environment in which a model appears as the sole survivor of the battle wearing the designs of the winner of the second edition of the event, the South Korean Lee Jean Youn.
Following on from the success of the previous editions, the “el Botón”-MANGO Fashion Awards has achieved an excellent reputation and major recognition within the industry, particularly among new fashion designers. MANGO is therefore continuing to position itself as a creative brand which is committed to design and young fashion talent, by helping them realise their dreams.
