Mangelware

...playing with tradition and accentuating uniqueness

Mangelware is a Vienna-based fashion label working in the field of high quality womenswear. Mangelware's design has a subtle graphical expression with focus on details, such like pleats, smocked fabric, the cuts and the use and combination of high quality materials that accentuate the body in a discreet and intelligent way. The designs are based on unconventional cuts fused with classic shapes and details, forming a collection that can be easily transformed from everyday wear into evening wear. The aim of Mangelware is to create garments that play with traditions whilst accentuating the uniqueness of each individual.

Sandra is a fashion designer today, because...
She enjoys making women look and feel wonderful.

If Sandra would not have become a designer...
She would have a lot more free time, she would have probably joined the circus and Mangelware would be a fantasy, rather than a reality.

At school/university she was...
Blissfully ignorant of the trials and tribulations of life.

Sandra's friends think...
More about her rather than seeing her these days!

When Sandra was 17 she dreamed of being...
Older and wiser, but now she is older she realises how foolish she was (and feels no wiser).

She knew she would become a fashion designer, when...
She started studying.

She didn't mind getting her hands dirty by... forever experimenting with dying and printing effects that make your hands look like something out of a horror movie, but she would never... never touch the fabric again!

Sandra gets really het up about...
People that take the industry too seriously. The love for it should be about being yourself, rather than going about being someone else. Fashion should be the hem of a lifestyle – finely executed, and should refine the edges of the reality beneath.

The defining moment in her career was...
And will always be, the moment a woman falls in love with a Mangelware garment and, in turn, with herself.

For a day, Sandra would like to be...
Free from all responsibility.

What would be Sandra's soundtrack to life?
Oh god, this could prove embarrassing! I am willing for my clothes to be judged, but my taste in music is another story! Nothing romantic, wailing, overcomplicated or aggressive. I'll play it safe and stay philosophical. Most probably something with a strong, simple rhythm but progressive, as I like to think that my life and work are continuously moving forward but not too hedonistic or over-embellished.

Her biggest regret was...
To start filling in this interview at 4am!

She would describe Sandra's personality as...
Fun, focused and open.

Sandra wishes the next Mangelware...
...collection to be as popular as the last.

If she could live her life again...
She wouldn't bother, once is enough for me, thank you!
