Little Shilpa

...illuminating the present

Drawing from local influences and observations, the “Little Shilpa” label is a collection that takes a vintage thought and tranforms it into a modern product through the use of varied raw materials. Her inspiration comes from travelling and the interaction with various cultures. This unique concept does not transcend time; it takes, shapes and juxtaposes it through accessories, imagery, headpieces, fashion films, art pieces, etc.... Little Shilpa creates this co-existence by combining the past with the present, decadence with clean and simple design. The USP of Little Shilpa is that each piece is individually handcrafted and as such a one-off that cannot be repeated. Little Shilpa is an installation artist, a milliner, a fashion stylist, an accessories designer. She has a penchant for creating more out of things...

Nothing inspires me like…
Steve Jobs...the way he changed our lives and made the impossible possible through sheer adamance and belief.

I hope…
To be able to look sideways even when I'm flying and still not crash into something.

Cultural influences…
Are what creates a post-modern artist.

I got where I am...
And I have a looong way to go!

Fashion can sometime...
Iilluminate the present.

I tried to live...
Believing that if it can be imagined, it will happen or can be done.

Creativity comes from…
Material memories...nostalgic past...post-modern present and the impending future.

Love is…
An irreplacable feeling...it makes everything seem possible.

My first crush...
Was a red, blue and white hat.

The earliest memory...
Me in '70s style huge sunglasses falling off my face...bright floral nylon kaftan...red, blue, white hat...red plastic sandals...hideous! My cousins were so embarrassed of me, they wouldn't walk next to me!

My mum...
Has given me the brain I have, always making me look at things from a different perspective, always taking the longer difficult but exciting route, always studying through songs and games that made me remember things better.

My dreams are…
To live in an age of wonder...friends both of sciences and of l’amour.

I have never…
Taken the easy route, and that makes my work increasingly obscure.

My vice is…
A preoccupation with melancholy, finding new ways of exploring the darkness, always juxtaposing horror, sensuality, decay, decadence.

Love now because…
The world may end in 2012.
