Julian Zigerli

...talking about Blair and Chuck

Julian Zigerli was born and raised in Switzerland. At the age of 20, Julian left for Germany to study fashion design at the University of Art Berlin (UDK) where he was tutored by Professor Stephan Schneider throughout his studies. After graduating in 2010 he returned to his roots in Switzerland and founded his own label 'Julian Zigerli' in Zurich. One of the founding concepts of this label was to focus on constructing garments out of innovative Swiss textiles. Julian's first collection ‘Sugar, Spice and Everything Nice’ A/W 11 was met with great success, both nationally and Internationally and was nominated for the Swiss Design Prize 2011. Julian Zigerli’s menswear stands for useful, smart and technical high-class pieces with a sporty touch. There is always a lot of love, colour, humour and positivity involved in his designs. One of his signature signs in his collections is the specially developed prints for every season and the jackpacks. A backpack merged with a jacket or vest. A new way of how wearable a backpack can get.

Nothing inspires me like...
The flora and fauna of our world. I like to breathe in nature and use it as inspiration. The combination of everyday life, fun stuff and modern technical influences is what is at the core of Zigerli. Kinda like sugar, spice, and everything nice in one pot.

I hope...
To live happily ever after. That is my main goal. But I also hope that I can carry on doing what I love the most. It is not an easy way to go, but we all know it never has been easy to be happy at what you do. I am and I whish for it to never end.

Cultural influences...
Is what I need. Travelling the world gives me fuel for life. Every year I try to take some time off and go to a place I have never been. Fingers crossed for Island or Bolivia or Argentinia this year.

I got where I am...
Through the fantastic support from my family, by making the right choices and not looking back.

Fashion can sometimes be...
The most amazing thing in the world, but I like to see it as a creative instrument for me and use it in a very easy going manner, so that the industry won't bite me in the ass.

I tried to live...
A calm life, but I prefer it loud. I need to have something going on all the time. Not that I am a crazy person who can't sit still. It is more that I like to explore.

I wouldn't want...
To miss out on all the series I am watching. It is a very good distraction from the world. It might sound stupid but it has become some kind of a hobby for me. This is also because i have many friends sharing this hobby and who doesn't like to talk about Blair and Chuck?

I scream when...
I think about having Jamie Bell in speedos eating icecream in the Maledives with me. Or I scream out of joy. That can happen.

I once thought...
That I should become a circus artist. Luckily, I decided differently.

I suck...
Sometimes.

I dance like...
A machine. That's what I love to do when I go out, or at home, or in the studio. Wherever the beat is.

Did you know...
That the Queen of England actually trained to be a mechanic? Everything is possible, keep that in mind.

I wouldn't pay for...
A glass of tab water. This is the one thing you should be able to get everywhere in the world where you can drink tab water. I have heard stories about bars or restaurant...they made me furious. Water is good for us, let us have it.

If I could...
Turn back time, I would learn to sing properly and sing along in a duet with Cher. But I guess if we could turn back time, there would be more inportant things we would have to change than this.

I like making...
Simple fast meals without vegetables. That is my idea for a cookbook. If fashion should become irrelevant for me someday, I will earn millions with this book in America.
