Jamie Bruski Tetsill

...combining the unexpected

I originally grew up on the west coast of Scotland in a small village called Skermorlie. I then moved to Australia where I lived and went to school for a year. My family and I then moved back to Scotland to Falkirk where we still live. I am currently London-based but go between both countries very frequently. My work is primarily about textiles. Coming from a textile background makes you think about the fabric as a project of it own. You consider all aspects of the design process, for instance when I start to design a collection, I need just as long to develop the fabric and technique as I do constructing and designing the silhouette. Evident within all of my work to date is my contrast of unusual weights and thicknesses of fabric, combining the unexpected. I like to use techniques and fabrics that are not commonly used within fashion. I find it challenging and feel that it adds interest and depth to a collection.

Jamie is a fashion designer today, because…
It's what I dreamed of doing.

If Jamie would not have become a designer,…
I would have become a volcanologist.

At school/university he was…
Drunk and mostly at partys.

Jamie's friends think…
He is a home wrecker aka bloody fabulous.

When Jamie was 17 he dreamed of being…
A fashion designer that pole danced part time in NYC.

He knew he would become a fashion designer, when…
He saw how badly his primary school teacher dressed.

He didn't mind getting his hands dirty…, but would never…
Clean up vomit.

Jamie gets really het up about…
People who talk shit.

The defining moment in his career was…
Not there yet.

For a day, Jamie would like to be…
My Cat Crystal.

What would be Jamie's soundtrack to life? Portishead, Dummy.

His biggest regret was…
Wearing baby oil on a beach in Ibiza in 2001 for a full day.

He would describe Jamie's personality as…
Fun and unpredictable. A bit of a free spirit

Jamie wishes the next Jamie…
The best of luck.

If he could live her life again,…
It would be wilder than you can imagine
