Hampus Bernhoff

...exploring the world of odd aesthetics

I graduated with an MA in Fashion Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design. My graduate collection consisted of 10 outfits with shoes, inspired by the artists Christo & Jeanne Claudes wrapping projects and 50’s couture. Growing up, I was overexposed to good taste. Thankfully, it worked to my benefit. Not only is good taste something that comes naturally to me, it made me want to explore the world of untutored design and odd aesthetics. Mixing elements of both of these worlds is usually a great source of inspiration for my work. It is challenging to create something aesthetically beautiful and slightly offbeat at the same time, and with this in mind I create.

Hampus is a fashion designer today, because…

I started off studying economics in Sweden. Out of the sheer frustration of spending five years on a BA in marketing grew some creativity that I eventually could express through fashion design.

If Hampus would not have become a designer…

He would probably be a frustrated banker dealing with a premature midlife crisis.

At school/university he was…

Very happy and hard working.

Hampus’ friends think…

That I am good company with boring jokes that they just can’t help laughing at.

When Hampus was 17 he dreamed of being…

I dreamed of being a rock star. I played guitar in a metal band called Dark-Side-Forest and another band called Instant Flower. Yes, I know they are horrible names but we were actually quite good!

He knew he was going to become a fashion designer when…

I got the acceptance letter from Saint Martins. It was a very happy moment.

Hampus gets really excited about…

Good music and thoughts about the future.

The defining moment in his career was…

When I was born. Since then it has only gone uphill.

For a day, Hampus would like to be…

Able to go back to one treasured memory and relive it again.

What would be Hampus’ soundtrack to life?

It would be the best mix tape you’d ever hear. Mainly a lot of grunge music, a short interlude of 90s dance hits and a lot of Stevie Nicks & Fleetwood Mac. Melancholic but happy.

His biggest regret was…

Well let me put it this way. When I wake up in the morning I usually regret not doing the things I can’t do in real life in my dream if that makes any sense!?

He would describe Hampus’ personality as…

Individual and diverse.

Hampus wishes the next Hampus Bernhoff…

To follow a similar path.

If he could live his life again...
He would definitely do it.
